The mighty Down recently swept in ear monitors system Las Vegas as part of their West Coast tour (read about their crushing performance high above the Strip here). Before the show, I had the honor of interviewing heavy metal legend Philip H. Anselmo. Joining us was Bruce Corbitt of Warbeast, a band which have become regular tourmates with Down. Never one at a loss for words, Philip talked about his new solo project, Down tours, the heavy metal world, and even the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame.
I guess, at one time, I liked Country Music, like George Jones, Mearle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, Randy Travis, and others, better. I guess I also liked Top 40 music, sometimes, but not the hard rock songs that became popular. I liked Elton John, Mariah Carey, the Carpenters, and Barry Manilow much better than the groups Steve Hicks liked. While I did like these how do in ear monitors work and groups, I guess I quit listening to Country Music because I got tired of the songs about cheating and drinking, even though I did like the love songs. I guess I started listening to Christian music more because the songs by the Top 40 artists didn't have the lasting meaning the Christian music did.
There are two kinds of earbud type headphones. Regualr earbuds and in ear monitors, also known as IEM's or canal phones. Regular style earbuds are the kind that come packaged in with most portable music players. They sit on the outside of your ear canal but don't actually go right inside. This is how canal phones differ. They actually fit into your ear canal and form a seal. Similar to foam earplugs. In fact, many of these types of headphones use foam ear tips that are almost exactly like earplugs, just much smaller.
Once you get the appropriate iPod for the job, you can download your favorite feedback music from popular sites such as iTunes. On your computer, you can visit these websites and choose from literally thousands of multimedia. There are some that you can download for free; there are some that you have to purchase.
After the show it is absolutely imperative that you carefully pack up every piece of equipment that came into the venue, and make sure it all makes it back into the trailer or truck. Do not leave things laying around during the day as this will make it very difficult to find everything at the end of the night. Keep your work station tidy and organized and make sure you know where all of your gear is at all times. Make sure everything is labeled clearly. It is very common for gear to be stolen from venues so you must be aware at all times. When you load into a venue, count each piece that goes in. When you are loading the trailer make sure you have the same amount of pieces!
